ROOT CANAL THERAPY
WHAT'S A ROOT CANAL?
Each tooth is made up of three main layers:

-
Enamel, the strong outer shell
-
Dentin, a softer layer beneath the enamel
-
Pulp, the innermost tissue that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue
Under normal conditions, the pulp is safely protected. But when bacteria enter through a deep cavity, crack, or injury, the pulp can become infected, often causing intense pain and sensitivity.

If left untreated, this type of infection will worsen over time and may result in the need to remove the tooth. At Lewright Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we do everything we can to preserve your natural teeth. That’s why root canal therapy is often the preferred option.

A root canal removes the infected pulp, thoroughly cleans the inside of the tooth, and seals it to prevent further infection — all while keeping your natural tooth in place. The procedure is far more comfortable than many people expect and typically involves a quicker, easier recovery than a tooth extraction.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE PROCEDURE?
We understand that many people feel anxious about root canals, but rest assured, the procedure is far less intimidating than its reputation suggests.

At Lewright Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, your comfort is our top priority. We use advanced 3D cone-beam imaging to get a precise, three-dimensional view of the affected tooth, allowing us to carefully plan your treatment with accuracy and care.

The procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia, so you’ll remain comfortable throughout. During the root canal, we gently remove the infected pulp, clean and shape the inside of the tooth, and seal it to prevent further infection.

Most patients report feeling immediate relief after treatment and are surprised by how easy the process actually is.
